Senate Transportation Committee adopts rules, moves meetings to old Supreme Courtroom

The Transportation, Technology & Legislative Affairs Senate committee adopted its committee rules and agreed to relocate future meetings to the old Supreme Courtroom during an organizational session that lasted a short time.
Chairman opened the meeting, announced a quorum and told members the session was "just organizational" and informational so members could "set our rules." He invited members to review the rules packet in their meeting materials and then called for a motion to adopt the rules. "Motion, by Senator Pitch, second by Senator Hill," the chair recorded; after a voice vote the chairman said, "All opposed, motion passes." The vote was taken by voice; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
The meeting included a round of introductions from state agency staff and outside advisers. Attendees who introduced themselves included Gil Rogers, government relations officer, Arkansas Department of Transportation; Greg Kirkpatrick, president of the ITO; John Curtis, director of General Affairs for the Association of Arkansas Counties; Bridget White, administrator, Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office; Bill Ryan, director, Arkansas State Police; Wayne Hamrick, administrator, Office of Motor Vehicle; Patrick Patton, CFO, Arkansas Department of Transportation; Joel Depipa, senior counsel, Department of Finance and Administration; Jessica Jones and Carter Hawkins with the Department of Information Systems; Morrill Herriman of the Mitchell Williams law firm; and Robert Morey of Broadview Strategies, among other agency staff.
Late in the meeting the chairman raised concerns about the committee room's size and sound system and asked if members objected to moving future meetings. He announced, "Without objection, our next transportation technology meeting will be in the old Supreme Courtroom." Members discussed possible meeting days (one participant said Wednesday might work) and the chairman said the next meeting time would be set "at the call of the chair" after coordinating with other committee chairs.
The chairman thanked attendees, closed the meeting and said, "God bless." The committee adjourned shortly thereafter.
Next steps: the chair will announce the date and time of the next meeting and future meetings will be held in the old Supreme Courtroom unless the chair revises that plan.
