Panel advances bill clarifying scholarship stacking and removes GPA reference

"This is needed to kinda clarify some stacking language where you can get both the governor's distinguished scholarship and the lottery scholarship," Stearch said, adding that the bill "does not increase the student awards" and instead aligns code language.
Senator Elliott asked for clarification about the removal of the GPA requirement and whether the ACT standard remains. Elliott said she had wanted to keep the GPA in the bill but sought confirmation that the ACT score threshold remains at 19. Stearch confirmed the GPA reference is removed and the ACT requirement remains the standard for initial eligibility; he also said the bill removes duplicative reporting requirements that exist elsewhere in code.
With that clarification, the chair moved SB126 "do pass," a second was recorded, members voted "aye," and the chair announced the bill passes out of committee.
The committee did not receive public testimony on SB126 during this meeting; the measure will move forward per the committee—s recommendation.
