LITTLE ROCK — Lawmakers advanced a measure to ease school choice deadlines for active‑duty military families who arrive and reside on a military base.
Representative Brian Evans, sponsor, told the committee the bill would exempt those families from the May 1 school choice deadline and instead require proof of transfer orders, proof of residency on base and an application to resident and nonresident districts within 15 days of arrival. Evans said the 3 percent enrollment factor remains in place and asked for the committee's consideration.
The committee gave the bill immediate consideration and voted to advance it.
