Mukilteo School Board approves routine policy revisions, collective-bargaining deal and Mariner change order

The Mukilteo School District Board on Nov. 12 approved a set of routine but consequential items during its regular meeting, voting by voice to pass policy revisions, a collective-bargaining agreement and a construction change order.

The board approved revisions to Board Policy 03/2013 on immunization and life‑threatening health conditions. A board member thanked staff for clarifying language and cross‑referencing state rules, saying the changes make the policy more explicit for staff and families. President Schwab called the question and the board approved the revision by voice vote.

Directors also approved changes to Board Policy 3,245 governing student telecommunication devices. The motion was moved, seconded, and approved after brief supportive comments and an opportunity for student input.

The board voted to ratify a multi‑year collective bargaining agreement between the Mukilteo School District and the district's extracurricular unit covering a multi‑year term included in the meeting packet. One director spoke to equity concerns about the length of the term, saying a longer contract reduces flexibility to respond to changing participation patterns, but the motion carried by voice vote.

Board members approved Change Order No. 1 for the Mariner High School renovation and addition project; a director noted the $754,000 change is within the project contingency. The consent agenda, which included routine personnel and business items, was approved earlier in the meeting by voice vote.

None of these actions included a recorded roll‑call tally in the meeting record; the clerk noted items passed on voice votes. The board indicated that more substantive or contested items would receive more detailed roll‑call votes in future meetings.

The meeting will return to regular business at the board's next scheduled session.
