Planning Commission approves hotel design, multiple plats and sets agenda items

The Murfreesboro Planning Commission at its April 16 meeting approved several routine land-use items, including an initial design review for a proposed La Quinta Hawthorne Hotel and preliminary and final plats connected to Clary Park and a YMCA property resubdivision.
Staff presented the La Quinta Hawthorne Hotel initial design review for a 102-room, five-story hotel to be built on 2.31 acres off Cedar Glades Drive and Manson Crossing Drive; staff recommended approval subject to minor site-plan comments and commissioners approved the design subject to staff comments. "The architectural elevations are generally in good order," staff said during the presentation.
Commissioners also approved the Clary Park Townhomes Garden Area Phase 1 horizontal property regime plat (21 detached and 46 attached units on 17.66 acres) and the corresponding Lot 19 final plat, both subject to staff comments. The commission approved a preliminary plat to subdivide the former YMCA property on North Thompson Lane into three lots and asked staff and the developer to coordinate a future road alignment to connect with Sam Walton Drive.
The commission considered the Maddington preliminary plat for 20 lots on 29.8 acres, and staff reported conditions tied to the earlier rezoning (culvert replacement and a Puckett Creek flood study) are in progress: the culvert has been installed and the flood study was submitted to FEMA and is under review. Staff recommended approval of the preliminary plat subject to remaining staff comments and the commission voted to approve.
Procedural business included approval of meeting minutes from March 19 and April 9 and passage of the consent agenda; one commissioner recorded an abstention on the consent agenda. No staff reports were given and the commission adjourned.
