Members of the Graham airport board said the city’s airport has expanded activity since the runway reached 5,000 feet but lacks taxiways and access needed for further hangar construction.
An airport board representative described a waiting list for hangars and said infrastructure upgrades — especially taxiways — are essential to attract builders and larger aircraft. The representative noted a request-for-proposal to lease a hangar to a mechanic shop remains active but has generated few responses, reducing the airport’s capacity to provide local maintenance and services.
Board members argued improved access and infrastructure could spur local economic activity — more based aircraft, fuel sales and hotel and restaurant use — and said past investments made 5,000-foot operations possible. The airport manager role was described as full time to meet growing demands; board members and staff said they are pursuing multiple funding avenues including TxDOT programming and other grants.
City staff and council encouraged continued efforts to secure funding and vendor responses; no procurement award or contract was decided at the town hall.
