The Sabine Parish Solid Waste Committee spent part of its meeting discussing operational gains and prospects for landfill gas revenue, with staff reporting that customer sales were approaching $5 million this year and that new customers could increase municipal solid waste volumes and gas production in coming years.
Unidentified Speaker 2 told the committee the parish is "going to approach $5,000,000 in customer sales," up from about $4.3 million the previous year. Speakers described losing one large customer earlier (identified in the transcript as McBride) after a Caddo Parish court order required that customer to take waste to a different site; staff said efforts had brought business back and that long hours of outreach helped recover volume.
Officials said increased MSW volume from new customers could raise landfill gas production in two to three years, creating a new revenue stream for the parish. "If they come in, there could be a large increase in the amount of MSW that comes into our landfill, which will increase the volume of gas that's produced in 2 to 3 years," Unidentified Speaker 2 said. The committee discussed space considerations and concluded the current airspace should be sufficient until new sales are prepared.
Participants also noted capital investments tied to operations: one speaker said the parish used about $3,350,000 to fund a front-end loader and other equipment purchases tied to landfill and road work. Members praised staff for achieving what several described as the best revenue year on record and said they will continue outreach to prospective customers.
No formal votes or new contracts were recorded at the meeting; the discussion was informational and the committee adjourned after routine business.
