The Sabine Parish Road and Shop Committee voted on Nov. 2024 to recommend a temporary pause on acceptance of new parish roads and related activities until the parish adopts updated road ordinances and policies. The motion was made during item 9 and carried on a voice vote.
Committee members said the pause is not intended as a long-term moratorium but as a short administrative hold while staff finalizes revised policies and a road ordinance to present to the full parish jury for approval. "We're just updating some of our policies and procedures," an operations representative said.
Staff told the committee they hope to bring the finalized road ordinance to the jury for vote the following week; if approved there, the pause would be short-lived and lifted. No new road acceptance or development approvals will be processed under current practice until the jury acts.
The committee framed the action as procedural: it stops formal acceptance activities while the parish clarifies standards for developers and new subdivisions.
