Kingsville’s City Commission met at 5 p.m. in October and approved a slate of infrastructure contracts funded in part by Hurricane Harvey mitigation grants, set a public hearing on a proposed public improvement district, authorized the city to partner with an economic development consultant for a new tax increment reinvestment zone and introduced multiple 2024 code updates.
The commission voted to award the North 19th Street stormwater improvement project (Project 2) to RS Parker Construction of Corpus Christi for a staff-recommended low bid of $1,630,804.89. The city’s contract engineer said the work includes approximately 430 linear feet of 6-by-4 culvert boxes, four new curb inlets and related appurtenances to reduce flooding in low-lying areas. “This will catch a lot of water that ends up down in that 21st–23rd avenue area that floods really bad when we get heavy rains,” the contract engineer said.
