Commission authorizes sale of 3.03‑acre former hospital site on East Caesar Avenue
Summary
The commission authorized staff to accept an offer to sell 3.03 acres of city‑owned land on the north side of the 400 block of East Caesar Avenue (the old hospital storage site). Staff said the property had a comp value of about $150,000, they hoped for $200,000, and that selling the site would return it to the tax roll and relieve maintenance costs.

Kingsville — The City Commission authorized staff to accept an offer for the sale of a 3.03‑acre parcel owned by the city on the north side of the 400 block of East Caesar Avenue, commonly described in staff materials as the old hospital storage site.
Staff read a memo stating that staff had been previously authorized to sell the property and that the item carried no financial impact on the city beyond removing maintenance responsibility. The staff memo said a recent comparable valuation placed the property at $150,000 and that staff had set an asking benchmark near $200,000. Staff recounted that a prior developer offered about $202,225 but had asked the city to provide infrastructure (water or sewer extensions), which the city declined because of the additional cost.
"By us taking it off our hands, it puts it back on the tax roll so we can actually start seeing some of the money that we actually invested in it," staff said, recommending the commission accept the current offer and stop incurring maintenance expenses for mowing and upkeep.
A commissioner moved to accept the resolution authorizing staff to accept the offer; the motion passed by roll call with commissioners voting yes. Staff said sale proceeds and final terms would be handled in subsequent closing documents.
