Kingsville — The commission approved emergency repairs to the City Hall HVAC chiller and a budget amendment request to cover $65,100 in replacement costs.
Facilities staff said Circuit 2’s compressor began failing in August, and that recent high temperatures accelerated the unit’s decline; Matlick of Corpus Christi had provided temporary repairs before the compressor ultimately failed. "The compressor went out this month and needs to be replaced with coils and contactors. The total amount to replace both compressors, coils, contactors will be 65,100," facilities staff said, noting City Hall houses critical staff archives and network computer systems.
Staff requested transferring funds from mineral reserves to the facilities/building maintenance account to cover the emergency repairs. Commissioner Alvarez moved to authorize the emergency repairs and a budget amendment; the motion passed on roll call with all present voting yes.
Staff introduced a related ordinance to amend the fiscal year budget to appropriate the funds; that ordinance will be returned for formal adoption at a future meeting.
