The Kingsville City Commission approved resolutions authorizing the police department to apply for FY2026 Operation Lone Star grant funds and to accept Operation Stone Garden funding for the 2025 performance period.
Police staff told the commission the FY2026 Operation Lone Star program provides reimbursement funds for interagency border-security operations and supports objectives including deterring cross-border criminal activity, improving intelligence sharing and enhancing coordination among local and state law enforcement. Staff said eligible uses include overtime and backfill staffing, equipment procurement or rental, training, travel and operational supplies; the department emphasized that Operation Lone Star is a reimbursement-based program and requires no city cash match. The commission voted unanimously to authorize application and acceptance if awarded.
For Operation Stone Garden, staff reported conditional approval to participate in the performance period beginning March 1, 2025, and ending Feb. 20, 2026, and said the city had been approved for $136,205 to cover overtime, fringe benefits, fuel and equipment. Budget line items described in the record included $114,205 for personnel, $12,000 for portable radios and $10,000 for supplies and direct operating expenses; staff requested acceptance via the Office of the Governor eGrants portal and a budget amendment to appropriate the funds when received. The commission moved and unanimously approved acceptance of the Stone Garden grant and directed staff to present a budget amendment at a future meeting.
