Seguin certifies Nov. 5 election results and swears in mayor, council members

The Seguin City Council on Nov. 19 certified the results of the Nov. 5, 2024 general election and administered oaths of office to the mayor and city council members. City staff reported the certified returns and the council then accepted the canvass by voice vote.
The certification, presented by city staff, showed Donna Dodgen received 6,619 votes for mayor. Council members elected to represent their districts included Joe Rea (District 1), David Eveled (District 2), John Carlson (District 4) and Monica Napier Carter (District 6), as reported during the canvass. The council approved the resolution canvassing returns and declaring the results.
Mayor Donna Dodgen then took the oath of office during a group administration: "I, Donna Dodgen, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office as Seguin Mayor…" City staff noted the newly sworn members signed the official documents and that the oaths were administered in open session.
The action completes the formal certification and swearing-in process; council members will assume any duties and committee assignments consistent with city rules and the posted agenda. No further votes were required on the canvass itself, and the council proceeded to its regular agenda.
