Council approves rezoning of Center Street lots to single-family residential

The Hitchcock City Council approved rezoning two lots on Center Street from general commercial to single-family residential to allow construction of a single-family home.
City staff said the lots had been zoned general commercial historically but were never used commercially and are surrounded by agricultural-residential zoning. Staff said the lot in question is too small for agricultural-residential zoning and recommended rezoning to single-family residential to permit a house. The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed and approved the application at its previous meeting.
Council moved and approved the rezoning request submitted by Shannon Priest; a later, related rezoning referenced as submitted by Marco Gonzalez was also moved and approved during the same portion of the agenda. Votes were taken by voice and recorded as "Aye."
