Milton staff update board on Legacy Park, Milton City Park & Preserve and outreach plans ahead of summer

Staff briefed the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on April 17 about active park projects and upcoming outreach as Milton moves into its summer programming season.
On capital projects, staff said Legacy Park's 30% concept is being revised to value-engineer costs and that Milton City Park & Preserve's passive-construction work is ongoing and grant-funded, with new water-collection features and trails installed. Staff said Deerfield Active Park's 30% concept will be presented to city council for feedback before the project advances toward construction documents.
On outreach and events, staff listed key dates and initiatives: a "Meet the Neighbors" event on May 10 at the Freemanville Birmingham Green Space; a pool-opening "Splash and Bash" timed with the pool opening on Memorial Day weekend; Crabapple Fest (applications open; event in October) now falling under Parks and Recreation oversight; two summer interns hired to assist department projects; and an anticipated June presentation on Bright Minds special-needs story time in partnership with the library.
Staff also noted that summer camp staffing offers are being finalized, that some camps are full or waitlisted, and that staff and the board continue to coordinate schedules for tournaments and home meets across sports. No new construction contracts or formal budget approvals were made at the meeting; staff flagged timelines driven in part by grant conditions on MCPP passive work.
