The Ames Zoning Board of Adjustment on March 26 approved a one-year extension of a special-use permit allowing a temporary yard-waste collection and transfer site operated by Green RU at 220 and 400 Frio Drive.
Planning staff told the board the yard-waste operation has run at the site since 2017 under repeated temporary permits and that the public-works department intends this to be the facility's final year at the location. Staff recommended approval of Alternative 1, which would extend the permit for one year, require the site plan to match the submitted plan, keep operating hours consistent with the application, and require the site be restored to its original condition within 60 days of expiry.
An applicant representative said they had no additional comments and answered a board question about previous rodent complaints, saying they were not aware of current rodent issues. A motion to approve Alternative 1 was moved by White House and seconded by Patton; the board took a roll-call vote and the motion passed.
The board noted that individuals wishing to appeal the decision may do so to a court of record within 30 days after filing of the decision.
