Delia, director of the Natural Resources Division, told the commission that staff received a report that a town resident’s dog was seriously injured in an encounter with hounds from the Old Northbridge Hounds hunt club during a recent hunt. The dog survived, Delia said, and staff has arranged a meeting with the Land Trust, the hunt‑club permit holder and representatives from Lincoln, Sudbury and the town’s animal control officer to discuss notification, trail safety and management of future events.
Delia said the meeting is scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m. and that staff and other commissioners are welcome to join via Zoom. She also noted the hunts run several times a year and that town partners (Mass Audubon, the land trust and neighboring towns) have historically permitted the activity; staff said the commission has not required advance notifications for hunts in the past but that practices may be reviewed following the incident.
In commissioner comments, Chair Sarah Greenwood relayed that the Main Street task force may recommend the Holding Basin be managed as a pollinator meadow, with annual mowing and portions set aside for conservation use and an easement under NRC care if the town acquires the site. Commissioners asked staff to place a map and more detail on a future agenda so members can consider the conservation easement option.
Delia also announced logistics items including a Saturday drop‑off swap with preregistration and that the Warner Respond Task Force will move its start time to 6 p.m.
