Separately, Speaker 4 explained the AASA membership role and noted one of the two annual AASA conferences is covered by the association while the second requires district funding for travel and hotel costs. When asked whether the Rhode Island Superintendent Association would contribute, Speaker 4 said this trip would be covered by Smithfield; cost was described as "not to exceed $4,000." Speaker 1 confirmed the committee approved the travel request by voice vote.
The committee recorded the motions and approved both items during the Nov. 4 meeting. Staff will record the salary change in district personnel files and process travel arrangements under the stated spending limit.
