Select Board approves regional opioid-settlement intermunicipal agreement

The Select Board voted Sept. 9 to approve an intermunicipal agreement to participate in the Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative—s regional use of opioid settlement funds.
Kelly Callow, shared services coordinator for the Collaborative, told the board the partnership (Bedford, Concord, Carlisle, Lincoln, Sudbury, Weston and Wayland) seeks to hire a regional youth substance-prevention coordinator to run prevention programs across partner towns. Callow said six partner towns had already signed and Concord—s authorization would allow the program to proceed.
The agreement has been reviewed by town counsel and will be signed by the town manager; the board moved to approve the IMA and voted unanimously. The position will be funded from opioid settlement allocations shared across participating municipalities.
Board members praised regionalization as a cost-effective approach to public-health prevention work and clarified that the IMA and funding arrangements had been vetted by counsel and partner communities.
