John, representing the Concord Art Association, said the design returned to an earlier contemporary approach for the entrance—moving away from a gabled street‑facing entry to a muted flat‑roofed porch and single modern column. He described the entrance as primarily an accessible/student/service entrance while the main gallery entry remains at the front of the original house.
Questions focused on ADA slopes and handrail requirements. Kristen First, the project’s landscape designer, said she consulted the Architectural Access Board and that the proposed handrail configuration meets minimal ADA requirements for the intended use; the design team said the rails would be black to match existing on‑site railings and slightly thicker to meet code.
A motion to approve the resubmitted design was seconded and passed by roll call. The applicant indicated construction on utilities is expected in the coming weeks, with major construction to start in the fall and winter.
