Select Board approves National Grid gas-main replacements on Crescent and nearby streets

The Town of Concord Select Board on Sept. 9 approved National Grid—s petition to relay multiple sections of 2-inch gas main in Crescent Road, Hosmer Road, Garland Road, Wilson Road and adjacent streets.
National Grid—s presenter described replacing existing coated-steel pipe (some dating to the 1930s and 1957) with 2-inch plastic across several locations, listing lengths for each run. The town—s public works engineering memo (included in the Select Board packet) recommended conditions including curb-to-curb pavement restoration and a two-year completion limit; Town Engineer Steve Dukran told the board the roads are in "pretty good condition" and that the company would be required to restore the full pavement width after work.
Resident Paul Duffy of 108 Crescent asked about safety and service disruption risks to homes during excavation and replacement; National Grid said service interruptions will be scheduled with advance notice and that work follows DPW guidance. Dukran said the board—s conditions require restoration and that a two-year permit window was appropriate for the project.
The board closed the public hearing and voted to approve the grant-of-location request subject to the packet conditions. Roll call votes recorded Ayes from Terry Ackerman, Mary Hartman, Cameron McKinnon, Wendy Ravelli and Mark Howell.
The board also confirmed that the project does not increase pipe capacity (replacements are like-for-like) and noted National Grid and DPW will coordinate traffic, safety and paving restoration plans.
The Select Board record shows the authorization includes the DPW conditions in the packet; National Grid will apply for street-opening permits and follow DPW-specified restoration and traffic-control requirements.
