State data director says MSIS is live; team reports steep error reduction after initial peak

Josh Huey, the department’s data director, told the board on Oct. 4 that the Mississippi Student Information System (MSIS) is operational and processing nightly submissions from vendor student information systems.
Huey said MSIS went live on June 28 and the system currently holds data for about 430,000 students. He reported that data errors peaked at roughly 448,000 on Sept. 4 and that teams have cleared approximately 15,709 errors since the peak, which he described as about 97% of the initial workload.
"MSIS is currently live. It is operational. It went live on June 28… We have about 430,000 kids in the state of Mississippi," Huey said, summarizing rollout milestones and vendor coordination. Huey outlined supports for districts, including 15 office hours, more than a dozen targeted trainings, training recordings posted online, daily vendor calls, and a temporary flat-file option for districts struggling with vendor connections.
Staff told the board they extended the certification deadline by one week to give districts time to finish. Huey and OTSS staff said they will continue vendor coordination and training to reduce tickets and resolve remaining issues; the department also plans to present lessons learned at a national conference later in the month.
