The Mississippi Commission on School Accreditation on a special‑called meeting introduced several members newly appointed by the State Board of Education and elected its 2024–25 leadership.
Pamela Manners was nominated and, following a motion and second, was elected chair for the coming year by voice vote. Carla Evers was nominated and elected vice chair after a motion by Kelly Barfield and a second by Patrice Gilfill; commissioners voted in favor of both elections.
Dr. Malone, presenting the appointments, noted the State Board named four new commissioners and reappointed several incumbent members. Toni Kerr, a newly appointed non‑educator commissioner, told the panel she spent nearly 23 years at the Department of Education and now works at the Department of Human Services as director of youth services. Jeremy Hamm, joining by phone, thanked the board and said he looks forward to serving "for the kids of the state."
The commission also approved its meeting schedule for 2024–25 — Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Dec. 5, Feb. 6, April 3 and June 5 — and staff clarified meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m. on those dates. Dr. Malone cautioned that the Sept. 17 and Oct. 15 slots were shifted to align with State Board timing and the agency’s annual accreditation calendar.
The meeting ended after routine business and adjournment at 8:56 a.m.
