The Ft. Zumwalt R-II Board of Education approved several procurement contracts during its regular meeting, including furniture for North Middle School, fuel-tank purchases for the new transportation center, and classroom and science furnishings.
North Middle School: Staff recommended splitting bids into categories (teacher furniture, office furniture, library furniture) to encourage competition. Office Essentials was approved for teacher furniture at a low bid of $64,567.44; Smart Interiors was approved for office and library furniture (library furniture cited at $51,498.47). Staff warned that library shelving may be delayed and outlined a contingency to borrow library carts from other schools so students can use library resources on opening.
Transportation fueling center: For propane, Ferrellgas submitted the lowest bid for an 18,000-gallon tank and equipment; staff presented a purchase price of $284,141 and discussed the district’s option to buy rather than lease. For diesel, Neumeier was the low bidder; the district approved a package that includes a 10,000-gallon underground diesel storage tank, safety equipment, a fueling island and canopy, and related components at $353,227.41. Staff said Neumeier will install the tanks and provide ongoing maintenance as part of the contract.
Classroom furnishings and science equipment: The board approved previously vetted procurement for student desks, chairs and activity tables from Virco and science tables from Pepco as separate motions. All these vendor selections were approved by separate motions and passed by voice vote.
Votes at a glance (approved by voice vote): Office Essentials (teacher furniture) $64,567.44; Smart Interiors (office/library furniture) library line $51,498.47; Virco (student desks/chairs/activity tables) [amount not specified in transcript]; Pepco (science tables) [amount not specified]; Ferrellgas (18,000-gallon propane system) $284,141; Neumeier (10,000-gallon diesel tank and fueling island) $353,227.41.
Board members approved each contract separately during the meeting. Staff noted delivery timelines and operational considerations for the fueling volumes (the 18,000-gallon propane tank was described as providing lower per-fill frequency and likely better pricing).
