At its regular meeting the Owatonna Public School District board opened with a mission moment to recognize Owatonna High School student-athletes: the boys 4x200 relay team (Nolan Genske, Luke Weber; teammates Garrett Karsten and Keenan Larson referenced), Seth Johnson (110m high hurdles state champion), and Carmen Jerley (Class AAA girls golf state champion).
During public forum Marie Olinger (stated name) spoke on behalf of Open Owatonna, describing the group’s 2022 school board candidate questionnaires and urging continued public-information efforts. The board then reviewed informational items including the enrollment report (no issues reported) and a city notice about a proposed TIF request for a 74-unit rental-housing parcel on Hillcrest Avenue SE; Mr. Elstad advised the board that TIF approval is a city-council decision and the district’s role is notification and questions through the clerk.
The board conducted routine business: it approved the consent agenda (August 26 minutes, disbursements and personnel reports) by roll call (seven ayes), approved the assurance of compliance report authorizing the superintendent or designee to sign and submit required AOC documents, and approved a resolution accepting gifts from local businesses and individuals to support homecoming activities (roll call seven-zero). The meeting concluded with adjournment.
Votes at a glance: consent agenda — passed (7-0); policy revisions (second reading) — passed (voice); preliminary levy certification — passed (voice); assurance of compliance — passed (voice); acceptance of gifts — passed (7-0).
