MDE panel: MSIS 2 rollout hits early errors but districts reach first-month certification

Tina Mason, data governance manager for the Mississippi Department of Education, read a written update from committee chair Deborah Donovan on the MSIS 2 student information system rollout at the committee’s Nov. 13 meeting.
The report said the new system launched with a substantial number of issues — "we began with over 400,000 errors," the report reads — but added that "the districts and vendors have worked extremely hard to get those down to 0 for certifications." According to the report, all districts certified month 1 by Oct. 31, compared with the prior rollout year when month‑1 certification did not occur until July.
Donovan’s report said staff are now turning attention to data needed for December submissions, which will feed the Mississippi Student Funding Formula and accreditation processes. No formal questions or requests for additional data were recorded during the meeting.
The committee did not take further formal action on MSIS 2 at this meeting; members affirmed ongoing monitoring and collaboration with districts and vendors. The committee scheduled follow-up work through its standing work groups and will revisit MSIS 2 progress at future meetings.
