Jackson, Miss. — The Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification, Licensure and Development voted July 12 to ratify an agreed order presented by the Office of Educator Misconduct that suspends an educator license for two years.
Scott DeYoung, representing the Office of Educator Misconduct, told commissioners there was one agreed order before the commission involving educator license number 231694. The order states the respondent (named in the record as Lauren La Bella) admitted that during the 2023–24 school year, while employed by Union County School District, she violated the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, including standard 4.2f. The agreed order suspends the educatorlicense for two calendar years from the date the commission accepts the order and requires the respondent, at her expense, to complete no fewer than three course hours related to educator ethics from a reputable source satisfactory to the commission before any petition for reinstatement.
The order notes that reinstatement will be governed by Mississippi Code Annotated 37-3-2-14 and the commissionmay reinstate the license only by a majority of commissioners present and upon satisfactory demonstration of rehabilitation. "The respondent admits that during the 2023–24 school year ... violated standard 4.2 f," DeYoung said while presenting the agreed order. The commission moved, seconded (motion by Mary Hill Taylor; second recorded in the minutes), and ratified the order by voice vote.
What this means: The two-year suspension and required ethics coursework are conditions of the agreed order; the order limits any immediate ability to teach in the state until the suspension and reinstatement criteria are satisfied. The commissionrecord notes the Office of Educator Misconduct recommended ratification.
