Dr. Gavin provided detailed line items, citing an updated student funding formula total and supplemental requests for career and technical education and MDE operations; the presentation noted increases tied to inflation, PERS and health-insurance cost changes. "So our request that will go to the legislative budget office for the FY2026 Mississippi student funding formula is [read aloud by presenter]," staff said during the briefing.
A board member moved to approve the budget request; after a second, the board voted by voice and approved submitting the FY2026 request. The presentation also recognized internal budget staff who worked on the submission and noted that the agency’s retained operations funding remains a small fraction of the total requested appropriation.
