Sheriff Mike Fisher told the board the current 35 mph limit is appropriate for Sierraville’s residential character and nearby businesses and argued higher limits would increase crash risk because of “numerous hidden driveways,” limited sight lines, pedestrians, school bus stops and frequent wildlife crossings. “This is our community, not your community. I take that seriously,” Fisher said, urging the board and Caltrans to prioritize safety.
