Council approves event-center hires and discusses opening plans

The Dell Rapids City Council approved hiring three part-time event-center staff and heard an operations update from Event Center Director Britney Nelson.
Nelson said she supervised interviews and proposed hiring Peter Klein as head bartender at $21 per hour, Mackenzie Nelson as bartender at $20 per hour and Avery Boltz as barback at $18 per hour. She said those wages will be paid from event revenues rather than the city’s general fund. Nelson said the event center already has four rental inquiries for weddings without a hard marketing launch and plans a bridal showcase presence in Sioux Falls this November to increase bookings.
Council members asked how liquor and tap service will be handled; staff said event renters will purchase kegs or specialty drink packages as part of their rental and that the facility will offer a limited bar menu to keep inventory and costs manageable. Nelson said the event center should be operational by July and that staff will continue marketing once photographs and layout materials are complete. The council approved the hires on motion.
