Barrington council approves engineering and construction contracts, equipment purchases

At its Oct. 7 meeting the Barrington Town Council approved a series of bids and purchases aimed at advancing connectivity and infrastructure work.
Public Works and administration recommended a contract with Parr Corporation of Lincoln for $94,400 to prepare construction documents, permitting, and construction administration for an ADA-accessible switchback trail linking Foote Street to the path near Tiffany/Princess Pond. The council approved the recommendation with funding drawn from sidewalk and bicycle facility improvement funds.
The council also approved a change order with DeAmber Construction Co., Inc., of Coventry in the amount of $287,560 (including a 10% contingency) to add mill-and-pave resurfacing for Maple Avenue and associated ADA ramp upgrades at the Roberta-Bridil/Lincoln intersection. The motion passed unanimously.
Chief Passat reported two end-of-life vehicle mobile APX radios were failing; the council approved replacing them via Motorola Solutions (purchase amount recorded in the motion as $17,848.18) with funding from the fire department capital equipment reserve account.
All three procurement motions passed with unanimous council votes. Councilors discussed funding sources, contingency amounts and the potential to leverage grants for some projects; for the Maple Avenue work the administration said $95,000 in state municipal roads and bridges grant funds could be used alongside $71,000 in additional town funds as the net incremental town cost.
