The Anoka-Hennepin School Board approved the districtpayable-2025 property tax levy of $138,286,962 following a required Truth in Taxation hearing at its Dec. 9 meeting.
Michelle Vargas, the district chief financial officer, said the proposed levy represents about a 1.2% decrease from the 2024 levy and reviewed how state funding formulas, declining enrollment and local tax-base growth can shift revenues between levy and state aid. Vargas told the board and public that per-pupil state funding accounts for the bulk of revenue, while local property tax provides roughly 20% of district revenue, and she reviewed examples showing how changes in property valuation affect individual homeowners differently.
The board opened the meeting to public comment as statutorily required; speakers largely supported continued investment in school programs. After the public-comment period and brief board questions, Director Simon moved to approve the final tax certification, Director Langenfeld seconded, and the board approved the levy 6-0.
Why it matters: The levy approved on Dec. 9 will fund the districtgeneral operations and next fiscal year's budget; Vargas emphasized the difference between a change in levy and a change in net revenue when state aid shifts are accounted for.
