The Jamestown Town Council ratified administratively approved short-term rental (STR) applications for the 2025 calendar period, after a resident urged the council not to reopen the STR ordinance.
Resident Beau Zimmerman, who identified himself as an STR owner, told the council his family has rented seasonally for decades and said STR owners had complied with the ordinance and related payments. "Jamestown can—9t be compared with Newport," Zimmerman said, urging the council to use tourism funds for complaint resolution and noting STRs support local restaurants and ferries. After public comment, a councilor moved to lift the STR ratification from the consent agenda and vote it separately.
Councilors then ratified the administratively approved STR applications for 01/01/2025 through 12/31/2025 (advertised in the Jamestown Press on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10), conditioned on resolution of taxes, state approvals and required signatures. No objections were raised and the motion passed on a voice vote.
The council noted that this action was a ratification of administrative approvals and not an ordinance change; any future changes to STR rules would require a separate process.
