Council approves Sail Foundation lease amendment, boat storage and explores Fort Getty fireplace

The council approved several Fort Getty-related actions: a lease amendment with the Sailing Foundation that includes a proposed building and an approximately 800-square-foot rain garden in an Area B flex zone; authorization to offer off-season dry boat storage on seasonal concrete sites; and authorization to explore installation of a fireplace at the Fort Getty pavilion.
Town administrator Ed said the proposed rain garden "would be constructed at their expense and maintained at their expense," and warned the council that the town remains contractually obligated to provide a waterline for the project and that related costs could appear in upcoming public-works or recreation budgets. The Sailing Foundation and private fundraising will cover building costs, a speaker from Fox Hill Farm (Meg Miles) urged that the rain garden be designed as an educational and pollinator feature: "We're trying to make as many parts of the whole process teachable moments."
Recreation staff proposed an off-season storage fee of $750 per season for a 30-foot boat and outlined registration and winterization requirements; the council approved the pilot storage offering for residents. The council also authorized staff to begin design and cost-estimate work for a fireplace behind the pavilion, with the expectation staff will return with detailed plans and management proposals.
