The staff member said Mr. Jones had "done a variance requesting not to be annexed in." The staff member added context that the parcel sits near areas referenced as Blackhawk and Hideaway Hills and that petition activity related to nearby jurisdictions may be forthcoming to Meade County.
Commissioners debated the request. Speaker 2 said, "I've been in favor of always denying the variances, but I think in this case, it doesn't make any sense," and indicated support for granting the variance. Another commissioner, identified as Mitchell in discussion, agreed that granting the variance was the logical move.
The commission moved and voted to approve the variance; the motion passed on a voice vote. The commission's action will be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for any further action or review.
