Dell Rapids council approves annexation for Spruce Glen housing phase

The Dell Rapids City Council voted to annex a parcel for the next phase of the Spruce Glen housing development, approving resolution 2024-18 at the meeting. Sheldon Jensen, the city’s community development director, presented the resolution and a map showing Tract 1 of Brown’s Addition as the parcel to be annexed.
Jensen said the annexation will allow the developer to include the tract in the next phase of Spruce Glen; he noted that more context about the phase will be provided at subsequent meetings. He also referenced a South Dakota statutory exception that allowed contiguity to be re-established with prior annexations.
On a council member’s question about acreage, the presenter responded “about 10” acres as a working estimate. The council approved the resolution by roll-call vote; staff said the annexation will become effective about 20 days after publication as required by procedure.
