Summerset raises maintenance concerns in Exit 46 DOT talks over lighting and shared-use path

Speaker 2 said the DOT assigned some lighting options to Piedmont although the physical lighting sits within Summerset jurisdiction, which raised questions about who will own and maintain the fixtures.
"The city is hesitant to take over the lighting of the interstate," Speaker 2 told the council, saying the city is also concerned about obligations such as snow removal, mowing, drainage and pavement markings if sections of shared-use paths and sidewalks are extended to Sun Valley Drive. Staff asked DOT to confirm whether Summerset’s current solar-lighting specifications could be used and said they wanted certain maintenance responsibilities struck from a proposed blanket agreement.
Council directed staff to remain engaged with DOT and attend upcoming transportation meetings so Summerset can clarify exact responsibilities and, if necessary, request changes. Phil Anderson and other regional representatives were noted as participating in follow-up DOT meetings.
No formal vote was taken; staff will report back as negotiations continue.
