Council approves annexation to pave way for Spruce Glen housing expansion

Dell Rapids City Council approved Resolution 2024-18 to annex contiguous territory into the city to accommodate the next phase of the Spruce Glen housing development.
Community Development Director Sheldon Jensen explained the resolution covers Tract 1 of Brown's Addition (northwest corner of Section 8) and said the annexed parcel together with adjacent Tract C will be part of the next development phase. Jensen noted an exception in South Dakota law that had previously affected contiguous status for a nearby golf course and said annexation will make the city contiguous again in that area. Council motioned, seconded and adopted the resolution by roll call; the annexation becomes effective after publication and the statutory waiting period.
