Commission approves $8,000 change order for diving-board foundations after design change

Commissioners approved a change order of approximately $8,000 to modify the diving-board foundations and associated pool-deck work after the pool committee purchased different diving stands than those shown in the original design. Staff and pool-committee representatives said engineers concluded the new stands require a deeper, pinned concrete platform that must be poured and anchored into the pool wall and deck; that work is not suitable for volunteer installation due to liability and structural concerns.
A pool-committee representative described the procurement and design shifts: "So some of the things that were pulled out, the diving boards were pulled out...we did purchase diving boards...the ladders now come off the back," and said the redesign required cutting part of the pool deck and installing secure footings. The committee noted an $1,100 travel charge in the change order that could be contested with the contractor but said contesting it might delay project completion into the next season.
Commissioners discussed setting a completion deadline; staff said the change-order approval before them did not include an explicit deadline and that timeline specifics would appear on the next meeting agenda. The motion to approve the change order was made and seconded; roll call recorded approval.
