Canton commission approves multiple infrastructure payments, moves to repair flood‑damaged sewer line this season

The commission approved GSA’s pay application #6 for the Beaver Creek trunk sewer project in the amount of $505,511.43. Byron, the project engineer with JSA, briefed the commission on sequencing: crews will begin work in the railroad right‑of‑way and advance west to Blair Street, with roughly 30 days projected for initial trenching work and an overall completion target near the end of the year.
Separately, staff presented a request to authorize GSA to solicit three contractors for a permanent repair of a gravity‑flow sanitary sewer that was destroyed during June floods. City staff said temporary bypass pumping was installed but exposed to the elements; to avoid winter damage and the risk of a frozen bypass, engineers recommended performing the permanent repair during the current construction season if feasible. The commission authorized solicitation of bids and accepted staff’s timing recommendation.
Other payments the commission approved included KLJ’s partial payment #3 for the Canton Airport hangar taxi lane extension ($23,386.88) and JSA’s pay application #2 for Industrial Park improvements on Innovation Street ($264,823.66). The commission also approved change order #4 for the Canton Community Sweet Pool — a $654.34 adjustment for equipment and a time extension — and staff reported substantial completion with a remaining punch list.
What happens next: Staff will advertise for bids for the Beaver Creek sewer permanent repair, return with recommended contractors and a funding plan, and continue routine processing of approved pay applications.
