Council members discussed stainless bodies and trade‑in differences and approved the procurement by voice vote.
Piggybacking and road materials: DPW asked to piggyback on West Greenwich's 2024 bid for road materials and roadwork services to secure favorable pricing for next season; council approved the solicitation and use of state/municipal bid lists where legally allowed.
ARPA procurement targets: DPW presented a list of ARPA‑eligible purchases that staff would take to bid if funds remain available. Items of note included a wooden brush chipper, mini‑excavator attachments, and two solar LED crosswalk lights identified as priority safety improvements at a school crossing. Council authorized proceeding to bid and set conditions for subsequent award decisions.
Town hall renovation and ARPA timing: Staff reported a vacant building and recommended issuing an RFP for renovations and alterations to prepare a future town hall; because certain ARPA funds must be obligated by December 2024, council authorized moving forward with an RFP and designated a project lead to expedite procurement and contracting.
Other approvals: The council also approved using ARPA funds for targeted immediate repairs at town properties (tank risers, painting, small structural fixes) to preserve assets while the larger renovation process proceeds.
Next steps: Staff will issue RFP documents, gather written quotes for the crosswalk lights and ARPA items, verify insurance and contract terms for awarded vendors and return contract awards for council approval where required.
