Council approves Town Hall public plaza proposal over split vote

Town staff said two proposals were received in response to a request for proposals and recommended Ramos Masonry of Cranston with Kevin M. Alverson Landscape Architecture as designer. During the presentation staff said the low bid and an alternate for cement pedestrian surfacing were considered; the council discussed cost, maintenance and ARPA funding sources.
Councilors asked whether the motion should specify funding sources; the town manager confirmed the sources were outlined in meeting materials and the council included that funding language in the motion. After roll call votes the motion passed 3–2 (two councilors voted nay). The town will proceed to finalize contract terms and schedule work.
Because councilors raised questions about the surface choice and ongoing maintenance, staff said they would follow up with clarifying documentation and account for a $1,000 correction referenced in meeting materials.
