Barrington council disbands Charter Review Commission after reporting its recommendations

On Nov. 25 the Barrington Town Council moved to formally thank and disband the town’s Charter Review Commission after a discussion of the commission’s work and follow-up needs.
Members of the public and commission volunteers asked the council to retain the group for additional outreach; one commenter said the commission had developed more recommendations than were placed on the ballot and suggested keeping the volunteers together for up to two years. The town solicitor explained that the council could appoint a new commission or propose charter amendments at any time and noted statutory procedures for charter review.
Councilors ultimately moved to formally thank the Charter Review Commission for its service and disband the commission; the motion passed unanimously. Councilors and staff said the work completed and the commission’s report remain available for future councils to act on.
