Shasta supervisors back letters supporting AB 25 and H.R.1383, oppose AB 690

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted April 8 to transmit three legislative letters: a letter supporting Assembly Bill 25, a letter opposing AB 690, and a letter supporting H.R. 1383.
County Executive Officer Dave Rickert had briefed the board on the bills during his county update, describing AB 25 as measures to “ensure accuracy and security of voter registration” and calling AB 690 a proposal that would impose new requirements and reporting burdens on counties that contract for indigent defense services. Rickert said he would bring draft letters for board consideration; the board voted to send the letters as a package.
The motion to send the three letters was moved and (according to the record) seconded by Supervisor Kallstrom; the board approved the package 5-0.
The letters are intended to record the board’s position to Sacramento and (in the case of H.R. 1383) to federal representatives on issues the board identified as affecting elections, county contracting, and rural schools.
