Barrington council appoints three new members to Veterans Advisory Committee

The Barrington Town Council unanimously approved three appointments Wednesday to the town—s newly created Veterans Advisory Committee.
Natalia Aiken, a retired U.S. Army officer and military intelligence specialist who said she spent 15 years with the Department of Defense, told the council she wants to "focus on military transition from the uniform to civilian" and help bring federal grants to Barrington. The council appointed Aiken to a full member seat with a term expiring Jan. 31, 2028.
Jeffrey Martin, who served in the Army Reserve for 20 years, said he wants to be an advocate for veterans and repair past committee relationships. He was appointed to a full member seat with the same initial term date. Sasha (Alexander) Meyer, a six‑year U.S. Marine Corps veteran, said he seeks to connect younger post‑9/11 veterans to local services; the council also appointed him through Jan. 31, 2028.
Councilors discussed the committee—s structure in advance of the appointments, saying the body will include seven full voting members, three alternates and a requirement that at least five members be veterans or immediate family of veterans. Councilors described the committee's functions as maintaining memorials, planning veterans' events and advising on veterans' matters related to local government.
Each appointment was made by motion and approved by roll call vote.
The council did not set meeting dates for the committee during the session; residents interested in serving were invited to apply per the terms announced at the meeting.
