Barrington council unanimously ratifies firefighter and police contracts

The Barrington Town Council on Nov. 25 unanimously approved two collective bargaining agreements negotiated by town management for its public-safety unions.
Town Manager Hervey told the council that the agreements had been reviewed by the town solicitor for consistency with the tentative agreement and that the human resources director and the presidents of the unions had reviewed and initialed each page. "So we're these are both these agreements are ready for signature if the council approves," he said.
Councillor Conway moved to ratify the agreement with Barrington Firefighters Local 1774; the motion was seconded and passed 5–0. The council then moved and approved the agreement with the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 351, also by unanimous vote. Councilors framed the ratifications as necessary to maintain retention and service quality for the town’s public-safety staff, referencing a retention crisis in July 2022 as context for recent contract priorities.
Both contracts were approved without amendment; the town manager and solicitor indicated the documents matched the council’s prior approvals and were ready for signatures.
