Facilities update: boilers, security upgrades, tennis courts and track review discussed
Summary
Facilities staff updated the operations committee on completed and planned work including elevator and pool filter repairs, card reader and keybox security work, tennis court orders, pending laboratory renovation and the Lyman Hall boiler replacement plan; the district said it will rent a temporary boiler if new units are delayed.
District facilities staff and central-office leaders updated the operations committee on a range of maintenance projects and security upgrades, and described contingency plans for the Lyman Hall boiler replacement.
Miss Brenda Bellizzi and facilities staff reported several summer projects were completed and others remain in progress: school sign proofs are under review; laboratory renovation fixtures and partitions are on order with completion anticipated in December; card-reader updates are partially complete at Rock Hill and exterior door-lock updates at DAG are planned by December; keyboxes will be coordinated with the Wallingford Police Department; work orders for tennis-court repairs at Lyman Hall and Sheehan are issued for work in the fall; the DAG academic elevator repair is complete; and the pool filter at Marquisheen High School is finished.
On Lyman Hall boilers, staff said the town council approved bonding and the district will proceed after the 30-day waiting period (noted in the meeting as around Sept. 17). Facilities director Mister Deptula said two replacement boilers have already been manufactured by Cleaver-Brooks and the project will install three new boilers. "The intent would be to rent one boiler of a larger capacity" if deliveries slip, he said, adding that rental staff and the district’s mechanical contractor would support the temporary installation and monitoring.
Committee members raised a concern about a small gap under a newly installed fence at the north end of Lyman Hall fields; staff said the vendor is aware and will return to complete the work within about two weeks. The committee also discussed a pending written report from a Cheshire contractor on the track; the district is seeking a second engineering opinion once the town purchasing assignment closes.
Staff will return with more detailed schedules and any recommended reallocations of 2% fund items at the next operations meeting.
