Board outlines timeline for 'Wallingford 1' high school ed specs; operations committee flags budget and facility needs

Superintendent Belizia said the district is "finishing up our educational specifications that we've been working on for the past few months" with consultants from Colliers and SLAM; the draft will be presented at the board's Dec. 16 meeting with opportunity for public questions and a working timeline that could bring ed specs to the board for consideration in February (subject to change). The superintendent said ed specs define space, lab and office needs and will guide later design work should the project be funded.
Operations committee chair Mrs. Reinis summarized the Nov. 12 committee meeting: the district is seeing a surplus this time of year largely tied to vacancies, special-education costs are rising, and the committee discussed moving remaining funds in the district’s 2% account to cover rentals of Lyman Hall boilers — a step that would require town council approval. The committee also reported no complaints on the food services improvement log and asked for additional dialogue with the town council on the district's 10-year waterfall plan.
Board members raised facility questions including tennis court painting, the status of the Lyman Hall softball field and a request to fund a civil engineering study regarding a wet track and field at Shand. The operations committee noted some projects have leftover funds that could be repurposed but any reallocations would follow town council and budget procedures.
