Wallingford honors U.S. Presidential Scholar nominees, NSDC awardees and Lyman Hall band’s national runner-up finish

At its Nov. 25 meeting the Wallingford Board of Education recognized three U.S. Presidential Scholar nominees and multiple National School Development Council award winners and celebrated Lyman Hall band and color guard placing at the national championships.
The Wallingford Board of Education used its Nov. 25 meeting to recognize student achievement across the district, honoring U.S. Presidential Scholar nominees, National School Development Council (NSDC) award winners and the Lyman Hall band.
Superintendent Belizia introduced the honorees and the program, saying, "So congratulations to these outstanding scholars. Your journey is just beginning and the future is very bright for all of you." Lyman Hall principal Mr. Corso presented Marcus Berson as Lyman Hall’s U.S. Presidential Scholar nominee, highlighting his straight-A record, enrollment in honors and dual-enrollment courses, leadership roles and responsibilities caring for younger siblings after moving to Connecticut.
Sheehan’s nominee, Danica Tangretti, was recognized for taking a challenging AP course load, her position in the National Honor Society and leadership in student groups. Galena Esposito was presented as the district’s nominee for the career-and-technical education component, with presenters citing her DECA leadership, national DECA participation and work at Powder Ridge.
The board also presented NSDC awards to students across the district, with Lyman Hall recipients praised for high GPAs, extensive volunteer hours and leadership in academics and athletics. Mr. Corso noted one recipient’s 215 volunteer hours and multiple AP courses.
Superintendent Belizia and band director Mrs. Robison recognized the Lyman Hall band and color guard for placing second at the national championships. The district reported a band score of 93.2 and a color guard score of 98.5; presenters emphasized the group’s extensive rehearsal time and parent support.
The recognition segment included brief remarks from principals and teachers and concluded with the board thanking families, educators and students for their accomplishments.
