Madison commission approves rezoning for proposed Quick Trip on southeast side

The Madison City Commission voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 16-71 on its second and final reading, rezoning a property on the city’s southeast side from single-family residential (R90) to Highway Business to accommodate a proposed Quick Trip convenience store. Jamieson described the ordinance as the second reading and final approval for the rezoning and said there have been "no changes since last year."
Commissioners asked no substantive questions during the discussion. A motion to approve the ordinance was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The approval changes the property’s zoning designation so that the Quick Trip development would be an allowed use under Highway Business zoning.
The measure was handled as an ordinary ordinance final reading; Jamieson told the commission there were no modifications from the prior review. The commission did not attach conditions beyond the standard permitting and development review process.
The rezoning now allows the applicant to proceed to the site-plan and permitting steps required by city code; the commission did not vote on building permits or project-level design at this meeting.
